Overview
I wouldn't be a vegan unless something horrible happened that forced me to give up meat & dairy. That being said, there have been amazing advances in culinary techniques that have elevated vegan food into something desirable even to a hardened carnivore like myself. Orchard Grocer is a quaint shop in LES that is taking advantage of those techniques. The interior is a small grocery shop with a grab-n-go deli counter serving great vegan sandwiches, salads, and bakery options. The range of flavors and creativity is truly extraordinary. They have veganized classics like a reuben made with beet-brined Blackbird seitan and an insanely flavorful bagel and "lox" made with shaved smoked carrot. The most exciting selection is the mock pulled pork made with pulled jackfruit, house-made pomegranate ginger bbq sauce & red cabbage cole slaw. They made me .a believer.
